PET semi-finished products are made of semi-crystalline polyethylene terephthalate which has high mechanical properties combined with good wear and cracking resistance. It can be delivered in the form of extruded sheets, bars or tubes.

PET semi-finished products have a remarkable dimensional stability because they are not influenced by air humidity and have a low coefficient of thermal expansion. At the same time, they are more rigid than other technical plastics. These properties recommend the use of PET semi-finished products for the production of precision components in special applications.

The very low friction coefficient and the very high wear resistance combined with the high resistance to impact and cracking make this material recommended for the production of moving parts.

PET semi-finished products are resistant to the action of most chemicals, including aliphatic hydrocarbons, gasoline, carbon tetrachloride, perchlorethylene, oil, grease, glycols, esters, ethers, acids and dilute bases.

It is approved for food contact.

PET is also available in black color, thus being protected against the action of UV rays.

In order to be able to make different finished products, PET semi-finished products undergo certain machining, such as drilling, turning, milling, cutting, threading, etc. Due to the almost zero moisture absorption, the dimensional stability of the PET parts is clearly superior to the parts made of PA6 polyamide.

Applications and features

Applications of PET semi-finished products:

parts for processing machines in the food industry
electrical engineering
gas or liquid resistant parts
dosing pumps in food packaging machines
control heads in the field of medical technology
precision friction bearings
gears and sprockets
electrical insulating parts, in electrotechnology
winding cores
parts for pumps
rollers and bearings
high density electronic connectors

For applications where friction is high, we recommend PET-T (PET with solid lubricant) which reduces friction and increases wear resistance.

Specific features:

very good dimensional stability
low water absorption (0.25 – 0.40%)
very good mechanical properties
low and constant friction coefficient
very good wear resistance (compared to PA6 and POM-C)
low coefficient of thermal expansion
high cracking resistance
very high hardness and rigidity
very good impact resistance, even at low temperatures
approved for food contact
good resistance to aging (better than PA6 and POM)
chemical resistance to the action of most chemicals
good electrical insulation characteristics
fire class B2 – DIN4102 (self-extinguishing after the fire source is removed)
