PA6 polyamide is a hard material, highly resistant to wear and impact, with good friction properties, used in many industrial applications. It can be delivered in the form of extruded sheets, bars or tubes.

Polyamide (PA6) semi-finished products have high wear and abrasion resistance, very good friction characteristics and very high resistance to impact and breakage.

Products made of PA6 polyamide successfully replace parts made of bronze, aluminum and other non-ferrous materials. PA6 polyamide is 7.5 times lighter than bronze at the same sheet thickness, but has similar mechanical properties and is much more economical.

PA6 polyamide semi-finished products absorb moisture during storage. Absorbed moisture influences the mechanical and electrical properties (e.g. increases the impact resistance) as well as the dimensional stability of the machined parts (for high precision parts this aspect must be taken into account in the design of the product).

As standard, PA6 polyamide can be delivered in natural white color or in black color. Black PA6 has molybdenum bisulfide (MOS2) additives, which makes black PA6 polyamide semi-finished products to have improved friction characteristics, UV resistance and high tensile strength. Also, depending on the requirements of each application, different additives can be introduced at the time of producing the polyamide semi-finished products to improve certain mechanical properties.

Standard sizes

PA6

White and black PA6 polyamide semi-finished products are delivered in the form of sheets, bars or tubes.

Extruded PA6 polyamide sheets are delivered with thicknesses between 2 and 8 mm and with a size of 1000×2000 mm and thicknesses between 8 and 100 mm with a size of 610×1000/2000/3000mm, in natural color.

Cast PA6 polyamide sheets are delivered with thicknesses between 16 and 100 mm and with a size of 1000×1000/2000 mm, in natural and black colors.
Extruded PA6 polyamide bars are delivered in lengths of 1 m and with diameters between 6 and 250 mm.

Cast PA6 polyamide bars are delivered in lengths of 1 m and with diameters between 50 and 80 mm, in lengths of 1 m and 2 m and with diameters between 85 and 125 mm, in lengths of 1 m, with diameters between 130-320mm

PA6 polyamide tubes are delivered in lengths of 1 meter with various outer and inner diameters. The minimum diameter that can be delivered is 25×10 mm and the maximum diameter is 200×150 mm.

Applications and benefits

Common applications for polyamide semi-finished products

Polyamide semi-finished products are used in almost all industries for the production of various machined products:
sliding bearings
gears and sprockets
pulley wheels
bearing housings
bushings
threaded rods
rollers and wheels
spacers
components that require wear resistance
vibration dampers

Specific features:

have low internal stress
high resistance to abrasion and wear
have vibration damping properties
have good sound absorption properties
have very good friction properties
are chemically resistant against the action of acids and alkalis
have high breaking strength
moisture absorption influences the mechanical and electrical characteristics
moisture absorption improves impact resistance and cracking resistance
moisture absorption influences the dimensional precision of machined parts

Other types of PA6 polyamide

In order to be used in certain special applications, PA6 polyamide semi-finished products are improved by adding special additives, which improve certain mechanical properties.
PA6.6 polyamide – has good resistance at high temperatures and high tensile strength. It is the hardest and most rigid type of polyamide-based plastic. The main characteristics are resistance to fuels, oil, grease, most organic and alkaline solvents. Moisture absorption is lower than in PA6. It is used on parts that are exposed to high mechanical loads at high temperatures.
Common applications: friction bearings, gears, cams, guides, sleeves and parts subjected to high loads or high temperatures.
PA6.6 + 30%GF polyamide is PA6.6 reinforced with 30% fiberglass. This material has a very high wear resistance, high strength and rigidity, high cracking resistance, good dimensional stability and can be used at higher temperatures.
It is used when the part must withstand an increased load combined with good friction characteristics.
Specific applications: parts for machines working at high temperatures, sliding bearings, levers, thermal insulators and spacers.

Processing of polyamide semi-finished products
