HIPS (high impact polystyrene) are sheets made of polystyrene with high resistance to impact, unlike standard polystyrene sheets (GPPS – general purpose polystyrene) which break more easily and have a lower resistance to impact compared to HIPS sheets.
HIPS sheets are available with a matte finish on both sides or with a matte side and a glossy one. The glossy side is achieved by coextruding a thin layer of transparent polystyrene on standard matte HIPS sheets.
HIPS sheets can be used in many applications, guaranteeing easy processing, good impact resistance as well as low costs (it is the cheapest thermoformable material). It is the material preferred by specialists who use thermoforming and screen-printing; quality works can be done with a low budget.
HIPS sheets can also be used in applications with special requirements: the construction of interior walls for refrigerators, where the white and clean appearance as well as the approval for food contact are imperative requirements.
Manufacturers in the advertising industry are well satisfied with the wide range of colors available as well as the surface properties of the sheet which is easy to be screen-printed. Whatever surface quality you are looking for: matte, glossy, textured or colored, ProSEP can offer you all.
Sheets with special features can also be supplied on request:
sheets protected against UV rays, which provides improved color stability
sheets resistant to freon for the refrigeration industry
sheets with specially treated surfaces with antibacterial properties
sheets with corona treatment (by this treatment the appearance of the sheet remains unchanged to the eye but the surface of the sheet is easier to be printed, glued or screen-printed).
