Dehoplast® x-protect is a material specially designed for lining of nuclear beam chambers with neutron radiation in nuclear power plants. Due to the high level of hydrogen and the uniform distribution of BOR atoms, neutron radiation in nuclear applications can be slowed down and absorbed in a very efficient manner.
The BOR content and the homogeneous distribution of BOR atoms in Dehoplast® x-protect ensure the efficient absorption of neutron radiation. The standard BOR content in Dehoplast® x-protect sheets is 5%. On request, sheets with a higher BOR content can be made, thus increasing the absorption level of neutron radiation.
By lining doors and walls with Dehoplast® x-protect sheets, very high-energy neutrons are slowed by hydrogen atoms in polyethylene and then absorbed by BOR atoms. Any secondary radiation that has not been absorbed by the BOR atoms can be attenuated and absorbed by making an additional lead sheet liner. The drawing below shows you how a neutron shield made of Dehoplast® x-protect works.
Standard Sizes
Depending on the required wear resistance and the range of working temperatures in which the sheets are mounted, Dehoplast® x-protect can be delivered from PE 500 or PE 1000 pressed sheets.
