AlphaPlus PP-H – Polypropylene sheets
AlphaPlus® PP-H are polypropylene sheets with alpha-crystalline homopolymer structure and grey color (RAL 7032), glossy on both sides, made by extrusion or pressing.
Due to the finer and more stable alpha-crystalline structure of AlphaPlus PP-H sheets, all the important properties of standard PP-H sheets are improved :
– Superior impact resistance and increased rigidity;
– Excellent welding properties;
– Longer lifespan
– Improved chemical resistance and superior cracking resistance.
AlphaPlus® PP-H polypropylene sheets are generally used to make tanks for storing water or various liquids, cylinders or drums for galvanizing or various metal coating facilities, wastewater treatment plants and septic tanks, etc.
Because polypropylene is generally very chemically resistant, it cannot be glued with any adhesive currently on the market. Therefore, in order to be able to make the different finished products, the polypropylene sheets must be welded together with polypropylene electrodes. AlphaPlus® PP-H polypropylene sheets are easily welded only with PP-H polypropylene electrodes.
AlphaPlus® PP-H sheets are not protected from UV rays and therefore are not recommended for use in outdoor applications. AlphaPlus® PP-H sheets with UV protection can be made on request.
If you have to carry out a work (e.g. a galvanizing plant) in which you know the chemical used, the concentration of the chemical, the working temperature and the tank volume required, fill-in the attached questionnaire and our consultants together with SIMONA AG Germany specialists will send you a professional offer that meets your requirements and safety rules for the construction of the tank.
Improved mechanical properties of AlphaPlus PP-H® sheets
At a temperature of 20°C, AlphaPlus® PP-H sheets are 25% more rigid than standard PP-H sheets. At a temperature of 100°C, AlphaPlus® PP-H sheets are twice as rigid as standard PP-H sheets.
At a temperature of 20°C, AlphaPlus® PP-H has an impact resistance 28% higher than standard PP-H sheets. At a temperature of 0°C, AlphaPlus® PP-H sheets have an impact resistance 75% higher than standard PP-H sheets, which combines very good functionality with a high safety level of the tanks made.

Also, the elastic modulus of standard PP-H sheets is 1400 N/mm2, and AlphaPlus PP-H sheets have an elastic modulus of 1700 N/mm2, i.e. AlphaPlus® PP-H is about 20% less brittle than standard PP-H.

These improved features may lead you to choose an AlphaPlus® PP-H sheet with a smaller thickness than a standard PP-H sheet. This makes you save material and costs.
AlphaPlus PP-H® sheet welding
The alpha-crystalline structure of AlphaPlus® PP-H sheets is finer and more stable compared to standard PP-H. This difference is also highlighted in the images below, which show the structures of polypropylene sheets under the microscope.

Welding of plastics can often result in changes in the morphological structure of the materials. This modification has a significant impact on the properties of the welds and thus on the total quality of the parts and subassemblies realized.
A first example is butt-welding machines, which generally produce irregularities in the welded area. In this case, a notch is formed in the welding area, which can cause the concentration of efforts in that place when increasing mechanical loads.
The ultra-fine structure of AlphaPlus PP-H sheets is thermodynamically stable and remains intact during welding (AlphaPlus® PP-H electrodes must be used for welding). This property remains constant regardless of the welding methods used. The result is a significant increase in strength, which leads to a significant reduction of the stress concentration level in the notch area. Also, due to the structure of the material, butt-welded AlphaPlus® PP-H sheets can be bent at a considerably smaller angle than standard PP-H sheets (see picture below).
Other properties of AlphaPlus PP-H® sheets
AlphaPlus PP-H sheets are much more chemically resistant than standard PP-H sheets. The fine morphological structure and increased resistance of AlphaPlus PP-H sheets have a positive effect on the chemical resistance. In addition to improved welding properties, tests have shown that the surface is much less affected by the action of chemicals. This results in a longer lifespan and greater operational confidence. Once again, one of the important factors of these characteristics is the fine and very stable crystalline structure of the AlphaPlus PP-H sheets.
AlphaPlus® PP-H sheets are more resistant to cracking thn standard PP-H sheets during operation. Tests show that the lifespan of PP-H Alpha Plus® sheets, at the same load applied and in the same environmental conditions, is significantly longer than with standard PP-H sheets.
The lifespan of the final product made of AlphaPlus® PP-H is much longer. Thus, AlphaPlus® PP-H sheets represent an advanced technology with technical and commercial benefits.
This technological solution is currently available in Romania exclusively through ProSEP SRL, the only distributor in Romania of SIMONA AG Germany.
Standard sizes
Semi-finished products of AlphaPlus® PP-H can be supplied in the form of sheets, bars and welding electrodes. SIMONA AG Germany delivers standard PP-H sheets and bars, in the natural color of polypropylene (white – translucent) – natural PP-H.
Natural AlphaPlus® PP-H/PP-H sheets can be produced by two distinct processes: by pressing or by extrusion.
Natural extruded AlphaPlus® PP-H/PP-H sheets are delivered with thicknesses between 1 mm and 50 mm, and the standard delivery sizes are 1000×2000 mm, 1500×3000 mm or 2000×4000 mm.
Natural pressed AlphaPlus PP-H/PP-H sheets are delivered with thicknesses between 8 mm and 150 mm, and the standard delivery sizes are 1000×2000 mm or 2010×4010 mm.
